Lake San Vicente is located at an elevation of 659 feet north of San Diego . It has 557 surface acres and 11 miles of shoreline and a maximum water depth of 190 feet. |
San Vincente is a famous impoundment in the San Diego City Lakes system. It has produced monster largemouths in the past, and there's an excellent possibility that a world-record bass swims in this lake. This canyon lake has only 1,000 surface acres and limited visible shoreline cover. Water clarity varies, ranging from very clear to stained. The fishing can be tough, however. Many anglers scale down to 6- or 8-pound-test line and learn to fish a variety of subtle baits. Mid-April through mid-May is the best period for sustained action. This is just before the spawn, when these Florida-strain fish move into shallower waters.
Reservoir has Florida-strain largemouth bass, black crappie, bluegill, channel catfish, blue catfish, white catfish, green sunfish, and trout (stocked November-January). Minimum size limit for bass is 12 inches. Fish limits are five bass, five catfish, 25 crappie. There is no limit on bluegill or bullheads. Fish catch information is updated weekly. New State and National Records were set at San Vicente on March 12, 2000. |
